The invention allows arbitrary routing of the optical interconnect between and through several nodes of the optical multi-chip module. This is critical for functionality, since in any module with more than two dies in it would require routing between and through all other dies for maximum flexibility and connectivity.

It demonstrates that two distinct silicon nitride micromechanical oscillators placed in a vacuum can be synchronized in both phase and frequency coupled only through an optical radiation field as opposed to coupling through a structural contact or electrostatic interaction. Synchronization is of great technological interest since it provides the basis for timing and navigation, signal processing, microwave communication, and could enable novel computing and memory concepts.
